Zirconia ceramics are a material with high temperature, high strength, high hardness, corrosion resistance, and excellent insulation properties, widely used in aviation, aerospace, chemical, electronics, medical and other fields. Zirconia ceramics (ZrO2 ceramics) have various excellent properties but also have some drawbacks.
Its advantages include:
1. High strength: Zirconia ceramics have high strength and hardness, especially bending strength and tensile strength, which are several times or even dozens of times that of steel, with high hardness and wear resistance. Its hardness is close to sapphire, suitable for making cutting tools, ceramic bearings, etc.
2. High toughness and bending strength. The fracture toughness is higher than that of glass and sapphire, and it has good bending resistance.
3. It is resistant to high temperatures, can withstand temperatures up to 1300 degrees, has a high melting point, and strong fire resistance. Zirconia ceramics still maintain high strength and hardness at high temperatures, and can withstand high temperature corrosion and thermal shock.
4 Chemical inertness. Acid and alkali resistant, non aging, suitable for harsh environments.
5. Good insulation. Zirconia ceramics are insulators at room temperature and have high insulation properties at high temperatures. They have high electrical and thermal insulation properties and can be used to manufacture high-voltage insulators, electronic components, etc.
Zirconia ceramics have a lower density and are lighter than steel, which can reduce the weight of objects.
Its drawbacks include:
1. Easy to break. Although it has high hardness, it is relatively brittle, especially when subjected to large impacts.
Difficulty in processing, high production costs, and high prices. Due to its high hardness and brittleness, it is prone to breakage during processing, resulting in high processing costs.
3. Poor thermal stability: Zirconia ceramics have poor thermal stability and are prone to phase transformation at high temperatures, leading to a decrease in performance.
Zirconia ceramics have advantages such as high strength, high temperature performance, high insulation, corrosion resistance, and lightweight, but they also have disadvantages such as brittleness, high price, poor water resistance, and poor thermal stability.
