Delivery Valve: Structure and Functions | Juchang Precision

Juchang Precision shares technical knowledge about delivery valve, the core component for diesel fuel injection pump. As a critical one‑way precision matched part inside injection pump, delivery valve directly determines diesel engine fuel injection quality. It plays vital roles in eliminating fuel dribbling, achieving sharp fuel cut‑off and maintaining residual pressure inside high‑pressure fuel pipe.
1. Structure of Delivery Valve
1. Precision Matched Pair: The delivery valve and valve seat form a paired precision assembly made of high‑grade alloy steel. Guide holes, upper‑lower end faces and seat bore are precisely machined and lapped. These parts are selected and matched in pairs and cannot be interchanged once damaged.
2. Delivery Valve Body: The conical section serves as axial sealing cone surface; the cone slides within guide hole for guidance. Cut‑outs at tail form cross‑shaped oil passage for fuel flow. The middle cylindrical surface is the pressure‑relief band. Pressure relief volume is formed between sealing cone and pressure‑relief band, which is the most critical structure of delivery valve.
3. Valve Seat and Sealing Gaskets: Lower end face of valve seat closely fits upper end face of plunger sleeve. It is tightened by delivery valve clamping nut with specified torque. Copper high‑pressure sealing gasket is fitted between clamping nut and valve seat, and low‑pressure sealing gasket is installed between clamping nut and pump housing to realize dual high‑low pressure sealing.
4. Pressure‑relief Chamber: Slotted pressure‑relief container is mounted inside the cavity of delivery valve clamping nut. It reduces internal cavity volume for faster injection cut‑off response and limits maximum lift of delivery valve.
2. Main Functions of Delivery Valve
1. Prevent pre‑injection dribbling and improve injection speed: When fuel supply starts, delivery valve lifts only after pump‑chamber oil pressure exceeds combined force of delivery valve spring preload plus residual pressure of high‑pressure pipe. Fuel can enter high‑pressure pipe only after pressure‑relief band fully departs from valve‑seat guide hole, thus avoiding premature fuel dribbling caused by insufficient pressure.
2. Eliminate post‑injection dribbling and accelerate valve closing: When fuel supply stops, the moment lower edge of pressure‑relief band enters valve‑seat guide hole, the passage between high‑pressure pipe and pump chamber is cut off. The delivery valve continues to move downward by stroke h, expanding volume of high‑pressure pipe and rapidly dropping pipe pressure by 1‑2 MPa. This brings sharp fuel cut‑off and removes post‑injection dribbling fault induced by oil‑pipe pressure fluctuation.
3. Block fuel backflow and keep residual pressure: After fuel injection finishes, delivery valve seats and seals itself. It isolates high‑pressure pipe from pump chamber to prevent fuel backflow into injection pump and maintains stable residual pressure inside high‑pressure pipe for consistent response of next injection cycle.
